Nicknames

Have you ever stopped to think about where your nickname came from or why you call your children certain things? My children have no formal nicknames. We call Madolyn "Mads", but never Maddie. Fiona is Fiona and Amelia is Amelia. Not a big fan of formal nicknames, but a HUGE fan of pet names for them. Right after Madolyn took her first steps and used to follow me around the house I started calling her "short stuff". She could never reach anything and was always standing on her tiptoes. So it stuck.

Fiona's nickname was also a physical characteristic.Fiona is now 20 months old. When Fiona was 2 weeks old we took her to the doctor and she had already gained 2 pounds since birth. The nurse called her "chunky monkey". We called her chunky monkey for awhile, but i soon realized that this physical description could one day leave nasty scars and I didn't want to be responsible for that. But now it has changed it to either stinker bomb, which i do not call her in public because i guess that nickname could screw her up too. Huh oh, I better work on a new nickname for Fiona, otherwise she is going to be able to blame everything on me when gets older!

Amelia is almost 6 months and we have not come up with a pet name for her yet. I love her middle name so I usually call her Amelia Margaret. I will let you know when i come up with a name for her.
I never had a nickname. At least not one that anyone said to my face. Huh oh??

Madolyn Kathleen

My husband and i have 3 daughters, Madolyn Kathleen, Fiona Mary and Amelia Margaret. Madolyn is 3 1/2 and an absolute gem. The other day her preschool teacher told me that Madolyn makes her want to have a daughter. What a compliment for Mads.

Today when I dropped her off at Mother's day out, i forgot it was pajama day. Madolyn was devastated when she realized that everyone had their pjs on but her. She didn't cry. She just stared at me with her huge brown eyes. My heart sank, I wanted to cry. Everyone was getting their picture taken. Mads just stood there, she had put her thumb in her mouth by this point. So I had to make this better! I had to make this up to her. I spun her around told her I was going to Target(which she always tells me that you can get whatever you want at Target) and getting her the coolest new pajamas.
In less than 20 minutes I was back at preschool with The Little Mermaid pajamas in hand. Madolyn was sooooo thrilled. I quickly told her I was sorry for forgetting her big day. She smiled from ear to ear and said "Ariel is my favorite, I love you Mommy and I forgive you!" I think that is so powerful, a 3 year that can forgive. She doesn't understand that I am a total flake and forget things all the time. All she knows is that everyone else had on pjs and she didn't.

It breaks my heart to see her upset. I know as a mother that I will make mistakes, but i will do whatever it takes to make it better. Whatever it takes.

My First

I decided out of the blue tonight to start this blog page. I am not much of a writer but my sister in law has a blog page that I love. Her page makes me laugh, cry and makes me proud to be a wife and mother. I just had to start.
That is what I hope, that someone will read this and I can make them laugh, cry and make them proud to be a mother and a wife.
